Saturday Nights Alright for fighting (23/10/06)

Conker Fight

It was the landlords who took centre stage for the first conker match of the evening. Despite Heather not being able to hit Pauls conker, she won as Pauls conker dropped to the floor!

Everyone in the pub joined in with the fight - regulars and newcomers alike, with some getting the hang of it more than others ... no names mentioned. But it was clear who had the misspent youth in the playground ... Colin and Vic in particular definately knew how to handle their conkers. Kat was perhaps the most inexperienced conker player and squeeled everytime Jeremys conker plunged towards her. Probably the longest game was between Richard and Mandy, who broke the 5min rule several times over, but nothing was said as Mandy was having so much fun with Richards conker.

And on to the final, which was inevitably battled out between Vic and Colin. With much cheering and encouragement from the onlookers, Vic emerged as a clear winner, when Colin's conkers fell to the ground split in 2. Vic is now the proud owner of the award and title of 'Jolly Sailor Conker Fight Winner 2006'. Get practising, because the event of the year will return next year.

80's Night at the Jolly

27th August 06

Bank Holiday Sunday was a celebration of the 80's. Music ranged from Toni Basil and Tight Fit to Altered Images and The Damned. The cocktails flowed ... Seamans Delight, Jolly Roger, Sea Storm, Captains Fantasy and Jolly Climax, not forgetting lots of Sex in the Jolly. Even Dennis was seen enjoying a Jolly Roger ....

Men vs Women Netball Match

23 July '06

A fun morning was had by all, but somehow the men managed to beat the women 16 - 11.

Gill was an extremely brave umpire, taking constant abuse and heckling from the men, but she managed to keep her cool and keep everyone in control. A big thanks goes out to Gill!

Vic had an interesting quarter marking daughter Vicky, at one stage it could have been an epsiode of WWE, as both were on the floor. Vicky and Lisa made a good shooting partnership, with Zoe helping them for a quarter and getting bashed about in the process.

Huw, Andy and Jeremy all played a role in defence, Andy spent lots of time trying to cuddle Lisa, Hugh did some good defending .. when he worked out there had to be a gap between him and his opponent, and Jeremy made some good interceptions and enjoyed slapping the ball, thin air or anything that got in the way.

For the men, Reece, Richard and Paul took turns to shoot. Richard, despite being nearly as tall as the net, found it difficult putting the ball through it, but luckily he had Reece on hand to do the job for him. Niki and Tricia did some sterling defending and managed to keep their cool under some rough handling by their opposition.

The centre court action was extremely frantic, Steve was everywhere and so was his voice, but fair play to him, he and Paul definately got the men up for the fight.

Gareth marked like a barnacle, although he forgot to stop when his opponent did. Paul and Heather played an interesting quarter against each other with lots of contact, tantrums and pushing going on.

Cath, Becky, Bobbie and Zoe held their own in the centre court and didn't get riled by the shouting and grief they were getting from the opponents. Cath managed to get away with a blatant punch on Steve, although I think one of the umpires may have joined in too (no names mentioned).

But at the end of the day, there was no blood or tears (just a few bruises), and everyone had a fun morning .. although the women will get their revenge in the not too distant future.

A big thanks also goes out to the cracking supporters ... Tricia, Nicola, Fiona, Brian, Brando, Glyn, Phil & son etc etc.

And last but not least, we mustn't forget to thank Zoe for organising the court and bringing the oranges and giving some pre match training to the men.
