Sunday 21st October '07 (week 10)
The last game of the tournament and with each place resulting
in an extra 200 chips for the grand final next week, there was everything
to play for. But with most of the regulars suffering from a severe
drunken late night, who would keep awake and finished in pole position
....? Who else but 'All In' Phil! Phil beat Swin in to second place
with Graham in third and Heather in fourth.
Sunday 14th October '07 (week 9)
The penultimate week of the poker competition, which saw
several of the chasing pack move up on leaders Phil and Mark. Congratulations
to Dave, who won his first ever poker match at the Jolly .. it's
not all good news for Dave though, as he remains 100 points behind
wife Alison. And it's the female ahead in the other Jolly partnerships
aswell .. Heather is leading Paul by 60 points and, well Erica and
Swin are level on points! So Dave beat Steve into 2nd place and
Heather in third. With one week to go, it's a 6-horse race between
All in Phil, Mark, Heather, Steve, Erica and Swin.
Sunday 7th October '07 (week 8)
As the end of the mini tournament creeps up, points are all
important and this may have been reflected in the reserved manner
took on by most of the players before the break. With a couple of
'all ins' it was make or break for the current league leader Mark
after 9pm .. and break it was as he crashed out. On to the final
table and as the blinds went up, so the players went out .. except
for Steve who played well throughout the evening and picked up all
100 points (well 90, cos he bought in!).
Sunday 30th September '07 (week 7)
Congratulations to Alison, who won her first game of the league
beating Mark into second place. Shah has steadily been improving
and managed to come third in last nights game picking up 70 points
on the way. Eli and 'All in' Phil both picked up 50 points each,
whilst Graham and Swin got 40 and 30 points respectively. So the
league table doesn't look at close this week, more than 100 points
separating the top 4 players.
Sunday 23rd September '07 (week 6)
It's looking like a 6 horse race in the poker with only
70 points separating 1st and 6th place. Congratulations (or should
we say 'Herzlichen Gluckwuensch' to Philip who won Sundays poker
game. Chip heavy throughout the night, Austrian Philip played consistantly
well and was only marginally troubled at the end when Heather beat
him on 2 hands, both times landing a straight.
Sunday 16th September '07 (week 5)
A fun game of poker this evening at the Jolly Sailor and
warm welcome to new player Tom who joined 14 regulars in an evening
of poker. The surprise of the night was probably 'All in Phil' not
going all in until well after 9pm! Paul got back to his winning
ways, beating 'All in Phil' into 2nd and new player Tom into 3rd.
So it's Mark who still holds top spot with 280, narrowly infront
of Phil, who has a 50 point gap on Erica.
Sunday 9th September '07 (week 4)
After taking part in the regional poker finals in Stevenage,
Paul, Mark and Steve returned to pub for Sunday evening poker. The
extra practise definitely paid off for one of the trio .... Mark
was in control of table for most of the night, and it was just a
case of when he would win. It was Steve H who Mark beat into second
place with Graham in third, which means it's Mark who heads the
league table with 230 points.
Sunday 2nd September '07 (week 3)
Back to 2 tables this week for poker! After 3 weeks it's the girls
heading the way with Erica in first place with 200 points and Zoe
in second place with 190. There's a gap of 50 points to 3rd place,
currently being held by 'All in' Phil. Graham won this weeks poker
game and with no 'by-in' he went straight into joint 7th place with
100 points.
Monday 27th August '07 (week 2)
Just the one table on Bank Holiday Monday's poker game, but it started
with bets of 200 straight off. Paul got back to his winning ways
as he romped to yet another victory. Erica was second with Mark
miraculously in third after crashing out of the game twice.
Sunday 19th August '07 (week 1)
With a slightly new format, the first poker game of the 3rd series
took place last Sunday. 'All in Phil' won with Zoe in second place
and Swin in third, but with 'buy ins' meaning a deduction of 10
points, so Phil picks up 90 points, whilst Zoe and Swin walk away
with 70.

Monday 7th May '07 (week
13)
The last session of the competition and the pressure was on. Mark
Roberts started with some great hands and did really well finishing
2nd. Probably the shock of the night was Paul going out in the first
round and only picking up 10 points. With Graham Roberts coming
third and Bob Roen picking up 100 points and winning the nights
match where did the chasing pack of Steve and Alan finish .. could
Paul be caught?
No is the answer, so congratulations to Paul who won the tournament
by a narrow 10 point margin ahead of Steve. Paul will now go forward
to a regional forward, so good luck to him. See below for the final
table.
Sunday 29th April '07 (week 12)
It was Erica, who for the second time in the competition won
first place in the poker match. She beat Steve into second place
and Paul in third. So with one week to go, it looks like it's either
Paul or Steve who will win, but if there are a few surprises then
it is possible for Zoe or Alan to catch the leaders and win outright.
Sunday 22nd April '07 (week 11)
The league is certainly getting interesting now and there's now
a tie at the top. Alan won this weeks close encounter, beating Mark
in the final. Whilst Steve kept up the pressure on the leading pack
by coming third.
Sunday 15th April '07 (week 10)
It's all getting close at the top of league now. Sunday
saw Alan pick up all 100 points, with Terry in second place and
Zoe in third. With 2 weeks to go, there's everything to play for
as, in theory, the title could by won by one of 7 players
Monday 9th April '07 (week 9)
Due to the Easter weekend and the Phoenix Race Night being held
on Sunday night, the poker competition took place last night. With
8 participants, all players took their place around just the one
table. It was Owens first win of the league beating Alan in the
final showdown, with Swin in third place.
Sunday 1st April (Week 8)
With the landlord away (again) along with with a couple
of other regulars, this was another opportunity for the chasing
pack to catch up. It was our first female winner though who picked
up 100 points, so congratulations to Erica. 2nd place went to Owen
with Zoe in third place. Latest league table below.
Sunday 25th March (Week 7)
Paul enjoyed another convincing win this week. Graham was
second and Bob was third. The evenings highlight was probably the
best ever bluff by Mark .... who after having had to look at his
account card to see what are the best hand, proceded to go all in.
Needless to say every one else also folded!
Sunday 18th March (Week 6)
Another exciting match of poker took place at the Jolly
Sailor last night. New player Alistaire had a good first game coming
sixth and picking up 40 points. It was the two Roberts in third
and fourth, namely Mark and Graham who picked up 70 and 60 points
respectively. With the landlord back from the piste, it was inevitable
that he would feature in the last round, but it was Steve, who beat
Paul in the final showdown, taking all 100 points and moved into
2nd place just behind 40 points behind the leader Paul.
Sunday 11th March (Week 5)
With the landlord away on the piste, it was the perfect
opportunity for the chasing pack to gain points and put pressure
on the leader. It was Swin who came out top, with Bob Roen second
and Steve in third. So what a day Swin had .. his team played in
an exciting 3 - 3 draw and he managed to stay sober enough to go
on and win the poker match, but with the landlord back this week,
will Swins good form continue?
Sunday 4th March (Week 4)
The poker league saw 2 new players join on Sunday, so welcome
to Kevin and Will. This week witnessed lots of ups and downs with
players virtually losing all their chips and then coming back to
win. Steve came third and Terry finished second, but it was the
landlord who won the 4th week of the competition taking his total
up to 305 points.
Sunday 25th February (Week 3)
Once again, the poker competition threw up a new winner.
Mark, who won in week one went out again in the first round. Paul,
winner of week two also couldn't repeat his winning performance,
only collecting 35 points yesterday. It was new player Bob Roen
who won the competition despite nearly going out in an earlier round.
Sunday 18th February (Week 2)
It was landlord himself who won this weeks poker match.
Was it good play .. or simply luck when the final card to be turned
up was a 5 of diamonds .. to go with the Ace, 2, 3 and 4 of diamonds!
Elsewhere, Marks good form didn't return this week and he went out
in the first round. Zoe and Steve lead the chasing pack behind Paul
who only has a 30 point lead out in front.
Sunday 11th February (Week
1)
Mark Swindle won the first match of the new
poker league last night in a closely fought final game against Steve.
Mark tops the table with 100 points, followed by Steve and Paul.
Sunday 4th February (Practice Week)
Congratulations to Phil, who won the first
Poker Night at the Jolly Sailor on Sunday. Although it was a practice
run, the players enjoyed playing with the new chips on the smart
new poker tables. Although matches start properly this Sunday (11th),
you are not required to play every week, although it does help because
each week players accumlate points and after a 13 week period, the
player with the most points goes on to play in a regional final.
If you're interested in joining the poker league, fill out a registration
form or pop along to the pub on Sunday evening (games start at 8pm).
