Pub Teams
Cycling
The Jolly Wheelers are our resident cyclists who describe themselves as "a bunch of drinkers with a cycling problem". Every Thursday evening through Summer, they cycle from the Jolly Sailor and back to the Jolly Sailor passing through Codicote & Whitwell - and in mid summer when light allows, they venture further - to Hitchin & often Hexton. Pop in and see us in the pub after 10pm on a Thursday (summer months).
Darts
The Jolly Sailor has 2 darts teams. The mixed team plays in Division 3 of the St Albans League with matches on Thursday nights, whilst the ladies are in Division 1 of the St Albans Ladies League with matches on Wednesday evenings.
We are always on the look out for new players, so if you’re a budding Barney or just fancy joining a darts team, pop in and see us.
Football
The Jolly Sailor sponsors Phoenix Football Club. They currently run 3 successful sides in Divisions 1, 2 & 4, with training at the Hertfordshire University every Thursday night at 8pm.
The club welcome all new members, so if you’re interested in joining, pop into the pub and see them on a Sunday lunchtime.
Golf
The Jolly Sailor Golf Society was formed in 2006. They are a friendly bunch of drinking golfers with ages ranging from 16 to 55. Golf days take place throughout the year at difference courses throughout Hertfordshire.
For further information pop into the pub and talk to Paul.
Netball
The Jolly Sailor sponsor Harpenden Netball Club. Don’t let the name mislead you though, the netball club train and play in St Albans (and Hertford). The club trains every other Tuesday at St Albans High School and play in local leagues on Saturdays and St.Albans Indoor League on Tuesday evenings.

Poker
Sunday evening is poker time at the Jolly Sailor. Anyone can join in, although the more often you play, the more points you get as the Jolly Sailor has its own mini poker league. Games start at 8pm with everyone getting the chance to ‘buy in’ once before the break.
Pool
The mixed pool team plays in the St Albans & District Winter Pool League with matches being played Tuesday evenings. Matches are made up of 9 games – 6 singles and 3 doubles, so the minimum number of players we need for each match is 6 and the maximum 12.
We are always on the look out for new players, so if you’re handy with a que or just fancy joining a pool team, pop in and see us.
This season see's the Jolly Sailor with two teams, playing in the Premier and 1st Divisions of the league.
